Official criteria re-verified 1 August 2026: see Immigration Bureau Order 12/2568, published by Phrae Immigration, retirement section 2.22. Jomtien may request additional local evidence.

The Immigration retirement public handbook and current Thai Immigration service guidance were also reopened on 1 August 2026 for the application evidence and fee.

Who this guide is for

As of 1 August 2026, the official criteria require the applicant to hold a Non-Immigrant permission and be at least 50 years old. This guide covers an in-country retirement extension, not a first-time consular visa application. For O-A differences, see Non-O vs O-A.

Where to apply — Jomtien Immigration

For a Chonburi address, confirm jurisdiction and current contact details with Chonburi Immigration. Its contact page could not be reopened successfully on 1 August 2026; the address, hours and phone remain last confirmed on 25 July 2026 in the Jomtien office guide. Queue-time estimates are not officially published.

Official core documents and local checks

Bank letter — where extensions fail

The official criteria reviewed on 1 August 2026 require a Thai bank deposit certificate and a copy of the account evidence for the bank route. They do not say a mobile screenshot substitutes for that evidence.

Seasoning, verified 1 August 2026: under the full-deposit route, 800,000 THB must be in the account for at least 2 months before the application and remain there for at least 3 months after permission is granted. After that, the balance must not fall below 400,000 THB. Under the combination route, its deposit component follows the same 2-month before and 3-month after periods; after those 3 months, at least half of that deposit component must remain. That is not a universal 400,000 THB floor for every combination.

Jomtien variation: the official Chonburi page does not publish one universal bank-letter age or accepted account-type list. Confirm the issue date, same-day passbook update, transaction history and account type with the office before applying.

Timing window

The national retirement criteria reviewed on 1 August 2026 do not publish a universal “apply within 30 days” window. Ask Jomtien when it will accept the application and apply before the current permitted-stay date. Processing time is not guaranteed; leave time for additional evidence.

After approval

Common Jomtien rejection reasons

Jomtien has not published a complete rejection list in the official sources reopened on 1 August 2026. The former list of “common” local refusal reasons is therefore demoted; the handling officer determines whether the submitted evidence meets the selected national route and any current local evidence request.

Non-O vs O-A at extension time

As of the official criteria re-verified 1 August 2026, the retirement-extension insurance condition is stated for Non-O-A holders. The standard Non-O criteria use the financial routes above. See O-A insurance requirements and confirm the category shown in the passport.

FAQ

Can I extend at Bangkok Immigration instead?

Use the office responsible for the registered address. A Chonburi resident should confirm jurisdiction with Jomtien rather than assume another province will accept the application.

Joint bank account?

The official criteria require the qualifying deposit evidence for the applicant. They do not clearly publish a joint-account calculation in the handbook reviewed 1 August 2026, so ask Jomtien before relying on one.

Can I work on a retirement-based permission?

The retirement category does not itself authorise employment. Work authorisation depends on the immigration category and labour rules; check with the relevant government office.

First extension vs renewal

The same official financial criteria apply, but the evidence available in the passport and bank history differs between a first application and a renewal. Bring the prior endorsement and ask Jomtien whether it needs any additional local continuity evidence.

Using an agent — when it helps

An agent cannot change the published eligibility criteria. If using a representative, confirm whether personal attendance is still required, obtain a written fee breakdown and never rely on an offer to bypass the financial rule. This site does not publish an unverified agent price range.

What changed in this verification

1 August 2026: the national eligibility, financial routes, seasoning rules and application fee held after re-verification. The exact passport-copy list, Jomtien address-document list and claimed common refusal reasons were demoted because they were not established by the official sources reopened this run; the Chonburi contact details remain dated to their last successful check.
