The published prices differ sharply, but they buy different products. As checked 1 August 2026:
- DTV requires a qualifying workcation, named activity or dependent purpose plus the mission's financial and supporting evidence.
- Thailand Privilege requires the programme's application, due-diligence, payment and contractual steps.

Benefits vary by membership and can change. The current official comparison and applicable agreement, reopened 1 August 2026, control. The former universal list of airport time savings, limousine counts, health screening and concierge outcomes is not retained.

The DTV's 180-day limit: how restrictive is it really?
The MFA publishes five-year multiple-entry validity and up to 180 days per entry, with one extension that may be granted for up to 180 days. It does not publish the former 900-day lifetime cap or a required six-month-outside cycle.
Compare the DTV entry/extension structure with the immigration benefit attached to the selected membership and any other route for which you independently qualify.

The DTV Soft Power category
Many people don't realize DTV has multiple qualification paths beyond remote work:
- Named activities in the MFA summary include Muay Thai, Thai cooking, sports training, medical treatment, seminars and music festivals.
- The processing mission must accept the activity evidence submitted.
- Spouse/dependent of DTV primary holder
If you don't qualify under remote work, the soft power category is worth investigating before defaulting to Privilege.
What about combining: DTV first, Privilege later?
A later application to a different route is a new official decision. The former seven-year cost and “upgrade” scenario is withdrawn because it assumed future eligibility, pricing and acceptance.
Tax considerations
Checked 1 August 2026: the Revenue Department says residence, the year and source of income, remittance, domestic law and any applicable treaty determine treatment. Family members
The MFA includes the spouse and dependent children of a DTV holder as an eligible DTV purpose, with relationship evidence. Each processing mission publishes its fee and checklist. Thailand Privilege additions depend on the selected membership and agreement; the former universal family-price calculation is withdrawn.
Switching between them
The reopened sources do not establish a universal in-country switching or overlapping-stamp process. Confirm the sequence in writing with the authorities handling both applications before relying on it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I qualify for both DTV and Privilege?
They are separate applications with different official criteria. DTV requires a qualifying purpose and supporting evidence; Thailand Privilege requires application, due diligence, payment and acceptance under the selected membership terms. Approval for either route does not prove approval for the other.
Does Privilege include health insurance?
Do not treat a health-screening benefit as insurance. Check the selected membership material and arrange any insurance required by a separate visa or personal risk decision.
Can I work on either visa?
The DTV workcation route asks for foreign-employer or professional evidence. That does not establish permission for Thai employment. Thailand Privilege membership is not proof of work authorization; confirm any work-permit requirement with the Department of Employment.
Which is faster to get?
Processing time is authority- and case-specific. The former universal ranges could not be confirmed across both routes and are withdrawn.
What happens if I'm refused for either?
The reopened official sources do not publish comparable refusal rates or a universal appeal process. Follow the decision notice and the responsible authority's current instructions.
Can I cancel and get refund?
The Thai mission publishes whether its visa fee is refundable; Thailand Privilege refund rights depend on the applicable offer and agreement. The former percentage schedule is withdrawn.
Which is better for Pattaya specifically?
Airport services depend on the current selected membership and participating locations. The former U-Tapao and time-saving claims were not established by the official sources reopened this run.
How does this compare to LTR?
LTR is a separate BOI programme with category-specific criteria and tax treatment. Compare it independently rather than inferring eligibility from this page.
Can I use DTV for 5 years, then apply for new DTV?
The reopened official sources confirm five-year validity but do not promise unrestricted consecutive DTV issuance. Any later application is assessed under the rules then in force.
What's the worst-case scenario for DTV?
Admission and any extension remain official decisions. The former anecdotal passage and success-rate implication are withdrawn because they were not official evidence.
