// VERIFIED SUMMARY

As of 25 July 2026, O-X remains a multiple-entry long-stay route for passport holders from 14 named countries who are at least 50. The published structure is up to 5 years plus one further 5-year period. The financial routes are THB 3,000,000 in a Thai bank, or THB 1,800,000 plus annual income of at least THB 1,200,000 with the Thai-bank balance reaching THB 3,000,000 within 1 year.

The current official source

The O-X rules were re-checked on 25 July 2026 against the Department of Consular Affairs' official O-X page updated 23 December 2025. No later effective amendment was found.

The earlier version of this page imported O-A's THB 3,000,000 insurance threshold into O-X and stated that THB 2,400,000 must remain after the first year. Both claims conflicted with the current O-X page and were corrected on 25 July 2026.

Eligible passport holders

As verified 25 July 2026, the official list contains:

🇦🇺 Australia
🇨🇦 Canada
🇩🇰 Denmark
🇫🇮 Finland
🇫🇷 France
🇩🇪 Germany
🇮🇹 Italy
🇯🇵 Japan
🇳🇱 Netherlands
🇳🇴 Norway
🇸🇪 Sweden
🇨🇭 Switzerland
🇬🇧 United Kingdom
🇺🇸 United States

Nationality and passport are both part of the published test. Residence in a listed country without holding its passport is not presented as sufficient.

Financial routes and retention

RouteThreshold checked 25 July 2026Later condition
DepositAt least THB 3,000,000 in a fixed-deposit account at a Thai commercial bank in ThailandKeep the qualifying funds for at least 1 year.
Deposit plus incomeAt least THB 1,800,000 in the Thai account plus annual income of at least THB 1,200,000The Thai-bank balance must reach at least THB 3,000,000 within 1 year.

After the first year, the official rule says the balance must not fall below THB 1,500,000, and withdrawn funds must be spent in Thailand. The old “THB 600,000 per year / THB 2,400,000 floor” formula was removed because it is not the current published criterion.

Insurance

As verified 25 July 2026, the central MFA O-X page and the Royal Thai Embassy Kuala Lumpur page updated 17 July 2026 require Thai medical insurance during the stay with at least THB 40,000 outpatient and THB 400,000 inpatient coverage. The official long-stay insurance portal identifies participating insurance information.

Consulate variation is material: the Royal Thai Consulate-General Los Angeles publishes USD 100,000 or THB 3,000,000 for O-X. The amounts cannot be averaged. The Royal Thai mission accepting the application and the Immigration office handling later evidence determine which current checklist applies.

Other published qualifications

Application route and fee

The central MFA page says an eligible person may apply at a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General outside Thailand, or through the Immigration Bureau when applying inside Thailand. The published visa fee is THB 10,000, or local-currency equivalent when applying abroad, as verified 25 July 2026.

Mission document lists differ. For example, police and medical certificate legalisation, copies, photographs and local-currency payment are controlled by the mission with jurisdiction. Inside Thailand, the Immigration office determines venue and supporting evidence. No current official source located in this review guarantees that Jomtien accepts every in-country O-X application.

Validity, reporting and annual examination

O-X status can be revoked if the required first-year THB 3,000,000, later THB 1,500,000 floor, Thai-spending condition or insurance requirement is not met, or if other published revocation grounds apply.

Spouse and children

The current MFA page says a lawful spouse and child may apply for O-X to accompany the principal holder. If a family member does not meet O-X qualifications, another appropriate non-immigrant category may be available. The family member's application and status are separate official decisions; the previous page's automatic dependent entitlement and under-20 rule were removed because the current central O-X page does not state them in that form.

Processing time

No current universal O-X processing time was found on 25 July 2026. Embassy, legalisation, background-check and in-country Immigration steps vary. The old 2-to-8-week estimate was removed rather than presented as an official service level.

Common questions

Related: Non-O retirement · O-A retirement · O-A vs O-X

Must THB 3,000,000 remain for the full 10 years?

The official rule checked 25 July 2026 requires the qualifying funds to remain for at least 1 year. After that, the account must retain at least THB 1,500,000 and withdrawals must be spent in Thailand.

Is O-X insurance THB 3,000,000?

It depends on the application post. As verified 25 July 2026, the central MFA page and Kuala Lumpur publish THB 40,000 outpatient / THB 400,000 inpatient, while Los Angeles publishes USD 100,000 / THB 3,000,000. The responsible mission's checklist applies.

Is there still a yearly Immigration check?

Yes. The official page requires an in-person examination of qualifications and supporting documents every 1 year, in addition to 90-day address reporting.

Can O-X be applied for inside Thailand?

The central MFA page says it can be applied for through Immigration in Thailand, but it does not promise that every provincial office handles every file. The Immigration Bureau decides the venue and evidence.
