Tourist status vs long-stay reality

Tourist entry and the Tourist Visa are temporary visit routes. The MFA states that an extension or change is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officer; this page does not claim a universal outcome from prior travel patterns.

Visa-exempt entry (stamp at airport)

The MFA published a 19 May 2026 review saying the 60-day exemption scheme is to be revoked and the exemption/VOA lists revised, but it also says the changes take effect only after the relevant Interior announcements are published in the Royal Gazette and the 15-day period passes. Until an effective date and current list are confirmed, do not rely on the older “most G7 receive 60 days” summary. Travelers already covered before the effective date may remain until their permitted period ends. Extension remains subject to Immigration discretion.

TR tourist visa (consulate)

Official MFA English/Thai material currently describes TR single and multiple entries with up to 60 days per entry and an opportunity to apply for an additional 30 days at Immigration. An extension is not guaranteed; Immigration decides.

Extension documents (official baseline)

The current Immigration tourist-extension handbook/search material identifies TM.7, passport, photo and the THB 1,900 fee, and the applicant should apply in person at the responsible local checkpoint. This is not a promise about Jomtien’s checklist or queue.

Claims not established by the current sources

The current official sources do not establish a universal cumulative-tourist-time threshold, automatic denial after prior extensions or border runs, Jomtien queue/dress-code rules, a mandatory TM30 outcome for every tourist extension, hospital names, or a guaranteed Marriage/ED bridge. Those claims are withdrawn; ask the responsible Immigration office for case-specific instructions.

File before the permitted-until date

Apply before the permitted-until date shown in your passport or entry record. If it has expired, contact Immigration promptly rather than relying on this article.

Officer discretion

Immigration may request further evidence; the current official tourist-extension handbook says consideration depends on the criteria and documents, and MFA says approval is at officer discretion. This page does not invent an automatic “tourism” narrative or promise an outcome.
