Tourist status vs long-stay reality

Tourist entry and the Tourist Visa are temporary visit routes. The MFA states that an extension or change is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officer; this page does not claim a universal outcome from prior travel patterns.

Visa-exempt entry (no visa)

The new visa-exemption framework took effect on 15 September 2026, replacing the 60-day scheme. It changes entry categories, not all tourist extensions to one duration. Your passport, entry category and existing permitted-until date still matter. Compare exemption with a TR visa; Immigration decides an extension separately.

TR tourist visa (consulate)

Official MFA English/Thai material currently describes TR single and multiple entries with up to 60 days per entry and an opportunity to apply for an additional 30 days at Immigration. An extension is not guaranteed; Immigration decides.

Extending a tourist stay in Pattaya

If you are staying in Pattaya, first confirm which Immigration checkpoint is responsible for your address. The national handbook gives only a baseline—TM.7, passport and copy, a recent 4 × 6 cm photograph, and the THB 1,900 application fee—and the responsible office may request further evidence. Claims not established by the current sources

The current official sources do not establish a universal cumulative-tourist-time threshold, automatic denial after prior extensions or border runs, Jomtien queue or dress-code rules, a mandatory TM30 outcome for every tourist extension, named hospitals or a guaranteed Marriage/ED bridge. Ask the responsible Immigration office for case-specific instructions.

File before the permitted-until date

Officer discretion

Immigration may request further evidence; the current official tourist-extension handbook says consideration depends on the criteria and documents, and MFA says approval is at officer discretion. This page does not invent an automatic “tourism” narrative or promise an outcome.

Does the new 15-day exemption mean a 15-day tourist extension?

No. Since 15 September 2026, Seychelles and Mauritius have a 15-day visa-exempt entry category. That is not a universal extension period. An extension is a separate Immigration decision based on the existing entry and applicable rules.
